Dopamine plays central role in pleasurable reward behavior, inhibition of prolactin production (involved in lactation), sleep, mood, Since dopamine has been shown to modulate the function of GABA A receptors in post‐natal neurones (Flores‐Hernandez et al. 2000; Chen et al. 2006) and that dopamine regulates the proliferation of NP cells in different brain regions (Baker et al. 2004; Hoglinger et al. 2004; Freundlieb et al. 2006), we aimed to characterise a potential functional interaction between these two receptor 2017-11-20 Dopamine Receptor Function in Normal and Diseased States Dopamine Receptors in Memory.

Spatial working memory operates optimally within a limited range of dopamine transmission and D 1 dopamine receptor signaling in the prefrontal cortex. Insufficiency in prefrontal dopamine, as in aging, and excessive transmission, as in acute stress, lead to impairments in working memory, that can be Dopamine D(1A) receptor function in a rodent model of tardive dyskinesia. Abstract G protein-coupled dopamine receptors (D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5) mediate all of the physiological functions of the catecholaminergic neurotransmitter dopamine, ranging from voluntary movement and reward to hormonal regulation and hypertension. In the central nervous system (CNS), dopamine is involved in the control of locomotion, cognition, affect and neuroendocrine secretion. These actions of dopamine are mediated by five different receptor subtypes, which are members of the large G-protein coupled receptor superfamily. Dopamine plays an important role in controlling movement, emotion and cognition. Dopaminergic dysfunction has been implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, mood disorders, attention-deficit disorder, Tourette's syndrome, substance dependency, tardive dyskinesia, Parkinson's disease and other disorders.
